Every time I watch this show and the episode ends I always want to watch the next one right after, but Maria and Aaron will not let me. This was one of the episodes where I wanted to see what would happen next. The war is still going on in this episode. We see that William goes of to war and Daisy knows she does not like him but she has given William the impression that they are together. We also see that Lady Sybil is working in the hospital and Thomas gets put there after shooting his own hand so he could come back home and not fight in the war. We see that Lady Edith is spending time at a farm helping but ends up getting in a mess because the husband and her get really close and they end up kissing. The wife saw this and was not happy about this. We also see that Mary realizes that she loves Matthew and she wants him,but the problem is that Matthew is engaged to be married. Sir Anthony has asked Mary as well to be engaged, and she said she would get back to him on that. Mr. Carson is working really hard and it is catching up to him because during dinner he collapsed. Lady Mary went to go visit him and he encouraged her to tell Crawley how she really felt. Anna on the other hand encouraged her not to because of the pain she went through with Bates leaving. It was really hard for Anna to have Bates just leave with his wife. Another thing that happened was there was a lot of people in the hospital and there was not a lot of room, so there was an idea to have them housed at Downton Abbey. Violet was not happy with this idea and mentioned that they were outsiders. Violet did not want them there, but the mom stood up to tell her it was not her house. So they agree to let the hurt war soldiers come to be taken care of there. Lady Mary decided to go tell Crawley about how she feels and when she is on the way she runs into his fiance. She was crying and told Mary about how Crawley was leaving early and how sad she was about it. Mary saw how this girl cared for Crawley and she decided not to voice her feelings for him.
We see many themes in this episode. We see the theme of outsiders in this episode. We see that grandma Violet sees her self has being better and sees the rest of society as outsiders. We see this when she does not want the hurt and dying war soldiers to come into the house to help them. She sees them as being lower than her and it would be a disgust to her to have them in the house. In today's society there are so many people that feel like outsiders because of people like Grandma Violet. There are even people in the church that think they are better than the marginalized and often have a cold heart. There are so many people that need to be taken care of in the church and mostly outside of the church. This generation needs to know that Jesus wants us to be His hands and feet. We are not to think ourselves better than a homeless man. But we are to extend our help to them and show them Jesus, not comparing anyone.

Downton Abby Blog # 7
This weeks episode was filled with many surprises. I was shocked at what happened in this plot. We see in this episode that the mom is pregnant. This was huge news for the entire household. It also meant that if it was a boy then Crawley would not be able to get the inheritance. The mom was really happy she was pregnant. Meanwhile Mrs. Patmore's sight is getting worst. Robert sends her to London to get her eyes checked at fixed. Anna goes with her and while she is there she meets with Mr. Bates mom to get the real story of why Mr. Bates won't talk about the stealing. Mr. Bates mom said that it was his wife that stole and he covered for her. He took the blame for his wife. Anna goes back to tell Robert the truth about Mr. Bates. Thomas is still at being no good. He looks for another job because he sees that the truth of his schemes are being found out. Also at this time we find out that there is a chance that Sir Anthony might ask Edith to marry, but Mary ruins the chances of that. Mary and Mr. Crawley are not doing that well and he decides that he is going to leave and take some time to figure life out. Then the unexpected happens in the episode. Cora the wife loses the baby because Ms. O Brien puts soap on the floor so she can trip after she got out of the bath. When Ms. O Brien realizes what she has done she goes to fix it but it was too late. The reason she did that was becasue she was upset because she thought Cora was trying to get rid of her, but that wasnt the truth. Cora was finding a new maid for her mother in law. Ms. O brien felt guilty. They have a garden party and Cora was depressed about the baby. We find out during the garden party that Gwen gets a job and is super excited about it. WE also find out at the garden party that war has begun!!!
This episode was filled with so much. There were many things that happened that I did not expect. There were different themes in this episode. There have been repeated themes in this episode. The theme I saw in this was that the no matter what good will overcome bad. The light will always outshine darkness. I see this with Mr. Bates most especially. Thomas and Ms. Obrien tried to get him in trouble so many times. They lied about him and tried to kick him out. Anna went to find the truth about him and she was right that he was not that person to steal. She was able to tell Robert and the truth was found out. We see that good will always win. There are even people in the church that have bad motives and wrong hearts and the truth is that God knows their hearts. Light will always come out of the darkness. We see this over and over again.

Downton Abby Blog #6
This episode was very entertaining. We see different things unfold in this episode. We see Sybil get into a lot of trouble. She goes to this place that is very dangerous for her. This guy is talking about not having woman's rights. She goes because she wants to be an activist for woman's rights. She gets in trouble when her dad finds out and he forbids her to go anymore. We see that the grandmother finds out about mary but she decided to protect her granddaughter and not to put her to shame with the information that she found out.Lady Edith gets taken out by sir Anthony and is fancied by him. Lady Mary and Cousin Crawley get closer and he kisses her. He proposed to her and she did not give him a response. She only tells her mom that she realizes that she loves him. Lady Sybil goes back to the place that she was not supposed to and she gets pushed and her face hits really hard and she got knocked out. Crawley was there to save her and they brought her to his house. The father was furious when he found out and threatened that the drivers job be taken away. Lady Sybil insists that he must not lose his job because it was not his fault. In the lower stairs there was more drama with Thomas. He was trying to get Bates out of the house again. They tried to frame him with wine and Bates. Thomas had Daisy lie to Mr. Carson, but she goes back to him to tell him the truth. Mr. Bates almost kissed Anna, but they didn't. I wish they had!!
I saw the theme of woman's rights in this episode. We this mostly with Lady Sybil. She went to a rally to advocate woman's rights. She thought it was not fair that women could not speak and could not have a voice. We see this in the church. We see in the foursquare church that we are open to having woman in ministry. There are denominations out there that are not advocates of woman in ministry. There are some that dont respect woman speaking to a congregation. God wants to use this generation no matter where they come from. No matter if they are female or male. Just as Sybil wanted to stand up we need to stand for what is right.

Downton abbey Episode 5
This episode was very interesting. We see in this episode more of the character of people be revealed. We see that Ms. Obrien wants to stir trouble and she stirs edith to find out what happened the night Mary's lover died. So Edith talks to daisy about what happened. Daisy saw what happened that night and knew the truth but did not tell any one about it. So Edith talked to her to fish information out of her. It was confirmation for edith when she overheard her mom and sister talk about the situation and was putting Edith down in the midst of their conversation. Edith left very hurt and upset. We see that Mr. crawley is starting to like Mary, but Mary makes him upset and makes him back off with a decision she made to get her sister jealous. We see that thomas is up to no good again as he is trying to get Mr. Bates in trouble and kicked out of the house. He set him up with something that was missing in the house. Anna and Mr. Bates were a lot smarter than Thomas thought and they figured it out and were able to save themselves from that mess. We see that Mr. Bates and Anna have an important conversation. Anna confesses her love to Mr.Bates and we know Mr.Bates loves her too. Mr. Bates does not say it and says that it wouldn't work in their situation at the moment. WE can kind of see that Mr. Bates may have something in the past that is holding him back but we are not sure of that yet. We also find out that Mrs. Patmore is becoming blind. She accidentally put salt on dessert and the guests ate it.
The theme that I saw her was secrecy. We see different examples of that. We see there are secrets between the Lady of the HOuse and her daughter Mary. There are only a select few that know about what really happened that night with Lady Mary and that guy that died. We see that Ms. Obrien stirs up trouble and causes Lady Edith to have some secrets of wanting some leverage on her sister. We see there is secrecy with Thomas trying to get Mr. Bates in trouble. There are a lot of secrets going around. The lesson I have learned about secrets is that what happens in the dark will always be brought into the light. I think that secrets and gossip occurs in the church today and it causes division. There must be people of integrity in the church. This generation needs an awakening of having integrity. It can be dangerous to have secrets and talk behind each other's back. There needs to be a fresh reminder with this generation of living a life of integrity in the smallest things.

Downton abbey Episode 4
This week's episode was one of my favorite episodes. There was a fair that was taking place in the town. It was exciting for the household servants. At this time there was still some grief with Lady Mary and the death she had witnessed in the other episode. We see different people develop more feelings for other. Anna was sick and he brought her dinner. She opened the door which is not allowed. WE see that Mr. Bates cares deeply for Anna. OBrien was upset because she had to stay at the house while Mrs.Hughes and others went to the fair. Thomas asked Daisy to go to the fair with him and william was not happy about that. William is in love with Daisy, but Daisy can't see that. Also Violet bombards Matthew Crawley with questions and fishing for information about the inheritance. The next scene goes back to the fair where Ms. Hughes meets with a man. We later find out that this man proposed to her a long time ago. They were madly in love, but she went to work in the Crawley's home. She gave up love. He was offering it again to her, but she said no. She wanted to say yes,but she did not know how to leave the Crawley home. We also see Gwen meet with Lady Sybil and she tells her that she is not going because someone else go the job. Gwen was devastated at the lost hope of her dream. Daisy meanwhile is giddy about thomas not realizing his true character.William is really angry with Thomas, because he knows that he is in love with Daisy. Robert and Matthew meet and Robert talks about him getting the inheritance. Mary is so upset and does not want to be married to him and does not see it as fair.
There are different themes in this episode. One that I saw was the theme of hoped love and hopeless opportunity. There were so many different people in this episode that we saw into their lives and hearts. We saw Mrs. Hughes with the man that she had fallen in love with a long time ago. She has the opportunity to say yes to him and to be happy, but she says no. She does not do what her heart is saying because she feels that she could never leave her workplace. We see Mr. Bates show his affection for Anna. We see in this episode that he deeply cares about her. There is hopeless opportunity here. We also see with Gwen that she had hoped to get out of the house and pursue her dreams. Her dreams were thrown out the window when they chose some one more "qualified". We also see Branson the driver talk about opportunity. We also see there being an interest in lady sybil. He makes a comment that makes sybil smile when he says he will not always be doing what he was doing. He would go after his dreams.
These perspectives are not supported by scripture. God tells us to have faith and hope. He gives us the opportunity to go after our dreams and for us to marry who He has for us. He allows us to go after our dreams and not be held back . I think that many people feel like they have no chance at life because where they come from. This generation needs to be motivated and revived. This generation needs to know that if they work hard and become a leader they will succeed. I would address these issue pastorally by encouraging them to know that they can achieve what they want in life. They aren't defined by where they come from. The household felt like they could never go anywhere in life. They were stuck being a servant. I would encourage people pastorally that we are all equal and that they have the opportunity like any one else has to make something of their life.

Downton Abbey Blog # 2
This episode was shorter than the first one. I wished that this one was longer. In this episode we meet new characters. We meet Matthew and his mother. Matthew has the opportunity to be the next heir if he marries Robert's daughter. Matthew is a different kind of guy. He does not like to have servants around. He is independent and seems to like doing things his own way. We see more of the characteristics of Mr. Roberts. Mr. Roberts is very compassionate and not judging at all. Mr. Garson is exposed by an old friend by his past. He was a performer and it was very embarrassing for him. This friend was framing him for money and came to Robert's house. Garson expected that he would be fired, but Robert told him that he was to stay and even was going to give money to him. We see the character of compassion in Roberts.
In this episode I see the theme of knowing your roles. We see this with Matthew and the servant that is disposed to him. Matthew did not let his servant help him with the things that was the job of the servant. The servant felt out of place because he was not able to do his job. We see that Roberts talks to Matthew about letting the servants do their job because it is their role and almost their identity. Not letting them do their job is like taking away their identity. Once Matthew lets this man be in his role, the servant takes pride and his confident again. We see the role with Isabel. She did not want Matthews mother to be involved in the hospital. Isabel did not see that it was the role of Matthew's mother to be doing that. We see though that the mother steps out of her role and saves a man's life.
We see the idea of roles in the Bible. We see that we all have apart in the body of Christ. We all have a purpose and we all have different gifts. We have different assignments that the Lord gives us. One thing I do know though that our roles should not define who we are. In the pastoral sense it should not be about position or title. We are all equal. So the pastor is not greater than the janitor. It should not about having a title it is solely about loving Jesus and being a servant. This generation is driven today by what title they have and it really makes me sad. We shouldn't live by what name we are given by others. It was sad to me that the servant butler was given his worth by his title. I feel like we are all equal and no one is greater than the other. I feel like churches need to learn this more.

Downton Abbey Blog posting # 1
I watched the show Downton Abbey. It was a very interesting show and I loved watching it. The show takes place in 1912. The main characters are Robert who is upperclass and he has a wife named Cora. They have three daughters. We also get to see the lives of the underclassmen that serve at the Robert's residence. There are two different classes that we get to see. The story line that is taking place is that Robert's daughter was engaged to be married to a man that would inherit Robert's properties and more. He died on the titanic and now their family inheritance was in jeopardy. All the while Mr.Bates comes into the picture and his is hired as the new valet. Mr.Bates had a cane and was handicapped but was confident that he could do the job. Robert was willing to give him a chance. Thomas another servant was envious and did everything he could to get Mr.Bates to leave by being evil towards him. Robert and Cora in the meantime where trying to find a suitable husband for their daughter and so a man named Duke came into the picture. The Duke wanted the money and wanted to have the full inheritance. We find out that the Duke and Tomas are homosexual in this scene and that the Duke has hidden agendas. Robert decides to let Thomas go because there were some servants complaining, but when he sent him to leave he couldn't send Mr. Bates. He knew in his heart that he had to keep him there. The Duke ended up leaving once he found out that he would not get full inheritance.
One theme that I found is the theme of clicks within the household. There were servants that conspired together to get Mr.Bates out. Tomas would talk to Garson who was the head servant to get Mr.Bates out. Tomas was being selfish and would get others involved. Then there were other servants that stuck together not getting into funny business. We see that even among the servants they segregate and have their own groups. I did not think that would be the case. I would have thought that they would have all stuck together. But some servants had their own agendas and not the right heart.
In the Bible it talks about servants and masters. The Bible talks about how servants must submit to their masters and obey them. The servants for the most part respected Robert and the family and did what was told. Robert was giving Mr.Bates a chance and the servants sabotaged it. They dishonored Robert that way even if it wasn't directly to him. They weren't submitting to Robert by trying to get Mr. Bates fired. These select servants were going against the morals of the household. Robert showed characteristics of having a compassionate heart. He seemed to have a heart that wanted to do what was right. Thomas was one servant that was doing something wrong without Robert knowing,
I loved this show and am excited to see the rest. My favorite part was seeing Mr.Bates being rescued. I cried. It was sad. Maria did not cry. haha I am really interested in seeing what else is going to happen
